About the Infant of Prague Novena prayer

Novena Starts: January 5th

Feast Day: January 14th

The Infant of Prague statue is a wooden statue of the Child Jesus holding an orb and cross. It is believed by most historical sources that it was made in the 16th century in Spain. Currently, the Infant of Prague resides in the Shrine of Our Lady of Victories in Prague.

The legend of the Infant Jesus of Prague starts in Spain. The Infant Jesus appeared to a monk who having had the vision made the statue.

Despite being made in Spain, the statue ended up in Prague because of the Spanish Duchess Marie Manriquez de Lcara. She married Vratislav of Pernstein in 1556. The statue was given to her daughter Polyxena of Lobkovic as a wedding gift.

Since then for those who have venerated the Infant Jesus, miracles have been reported. The statue is paraded through the streets of Prague, each year.

The Infant Jesus novena is a nine day novena, which means it is prayed nine consecutive days. Throughout the nine days ask the dear infant Jesus and his sacred heart to take care of the whole world.

Our Lord Jesus Christ, true God and true Man, was conceived by the Holy Spirit in the womb of the Virgin Mary (cf. Luke 1:26-37) and was born in Bethlehem. The infant Jesus of Prague novena is an excellent way to celebrate the holy infant Jesus. The Catholic Church has a long tradition of venerating icons to the holy child Jesus Christ.

Alternative Novena Prayer

Alternative Novena Prayer

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Infant Jesus, it is with humility that I come before You in Your infancy; infants are known for being so small and helpless, yet it is I who am small and helpless. Therefore, I humbly place my petitions before you:

[Mention Intention]

Infant Jesus, King of Heaven and Earth, You chose to be born into poverty, accepting human flesh as Your own with not even a crib to lay down your head. Teach us to be poor in spirit that the kingdom of heaven may be ours.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.
